On Holiday with James
Occupation: Underwriting Support
Where did you go? What time of the year was it?
Berlin in May.
How did you choose this destination/ what made you want to go?
I went with a group of friends – they’d been away to Norway the year before but I wasn’t able to go, so I definitely didn’t want to miss out this time. Someone suggested Berlin and I thought, yeah, why not?
What did you do?
We did some cultural/ historical sightseeing like going to the Berlin Wall. We also did a lot of eating and drinking; Berlin is a really multicultural city and it’s really reflected in the food that’s available. We found a really cool pop up market that was doing food from all over the world, including Korea. That said we also really enjoyed lots of classic German food like sausage and sauerkraut. We also went to a beer hall and had some really great craft German Beer. My favourite place was called ‘Burgermeister’ – the food was so good.
What was the best thing about your holiday?
The food, the beer and the public transport.
What was the worst thing about your holiday?
The trip was too short – I could have stayed for longer!
What was the culture like?
It was really vibrant and there was a great nightlife.
What where the people like?
Friendly – it was very multicultural.
Was it expensive to do things e.g. eat out, visit attractions etc.?
It was quite expensive but no more so than any other European Capital city.
What would you say to someone looking to buy a holiday home there?
It’s a great place for a city break. We actually stayed in an apartment we found online which worked out well for us as it was close to town. Berlin is great city to walk around.
Would you go back?
Do you have any good tips or advice?
The travel pass was really good value for money. Highly recommend visiting he currywurst museum (and eating currywurst).
