Neither buildings insurance nor contents insurance is a legal requirement in Portugal. However, they both warrant careful consideration. Why? One reason is that Portugal’s prone to natural disasters, and, if you plan on spending time away from your property, you’ll want a safety net in place.
Holiday home insurance isn’t legally required in Portugal. However, many mortgage providers do insist that you have buildings insurance. While mortgage providers don’t usually require contents insurance, it’s a step you might want to take to protect your belongings.
