At Intasure, we have a proven track record of developing new and innovative products to meet the demands and needs of individuals and businesses alike. For this reason, we are currently developing a new product to cover “Homeworkers”.
In recent years, there has been a developing trend towards working at home, it is estimated that approximately 1.2 million people run their business from the home address and around 3.7 million workers spend part of their time working from home.
Many employers and self-employed business people have recognised not only the cost advantages of running a business at home but also the fact that the absence of having to travel to work increases productivity.
At Intasure, we have recognised this growing trend and are developing a special tailor made insurance product for persons working at home.
One of the major problems facing home workers is that many insurance companies will not continue cover under a buildings & contents Insurance policy, if any business activity is carried out at the insured premises. There are a number of reasons for this; firstly, UK home insurance policies are designed to cover private household goods only, although some now will cover business equipment up to several thousand pounds. Secondly and probably the biggest concern though, is that any business activities may bring members of the public on to the premises and this could have liability implications.
Homeworkers running a business from their dwelling house or portable building in the garden will need insurance for their business equipment such as; computers, printers, fax machines, general contents and stock. If business equipment is taken away from the premises (such as in the case of trade samples and portable computing equipment) “All Risks” insurance may be required. As with any business, liability Insurance will be a must and of course “Buildings & Contents” insurance if the existing insurance company refuse cover on account of the business activities.
