How much does expat property insurance cost?
Your expat property insurance premium will depend on several factors, including:
- The type of policy: premiums differ across expat home insurance, expat holiday home insurance, expat caravan insurance and expat landlord insurance
- Location: for example, areas near rivers, seas or other bodies of water, could result in higher premiums
- The size of your property: larger properties tend to attract higher premiums
- The contents within your property: storing high-value contents in your property can result in greater insurance costs
-
Is expat property insurance a legal requirement?
No, expat property insurance isn’t mandatory. However, if you want to ensure the protection of your home and contents, it may be worth considering.
-
Why should you consider getting expat property insurance?
While it’s not a legal requirement, expat home insurance is a sensible consideration. After all, being away means you can’t always keep an eye on your home, and regular home insurance might not cover certain situations that come with being an expat.
Here’s why it’s worth considering:
- Unoccupied property cover: Many standard policies don’t cover homes left empty for long periods. Expat property insurance ensures your home is protected, even when it’s unoccupied.
- Protection against risks: Your property is protected against unexpected issues like flooding, storm damage, and fire. These events can happen without warning, and having the right cover can save you from costly repairs.
- Contents protection: Whether you’ve left furniture and belongings in the property or need cover for items while relocating, expat property insurance can include contents cover for extra peace of mind.
